To the west is the border with the Atlantic Ocean, and on all its other sides borders Senegal.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/strany-afriki-gambiya-1.jpg\" class=\"alignleft\" alt=\"African countries: The Gambia\"\u0421\u0442\u0440\u0430\u043d\u044b\" title=\"African countries: The Gambia\" \/> The landscape of The Gambia is predominantly a low plateau, which decreases in elevation as it approaches the Atlantic Ocean coast. The plains are divided in half by a river, and in several places are cut by low, flat mountains. In the west, not far from the coast, the river banks are mostly in mangrove swamps.<\/p>\n<p> Away from the river are wooded savannahs, with large areas of various trees, among them baobab and mahogany.
