The influx of emigrants from Russia in the period of 1917 left its mark on the cultural and architectural development of the city. At one time, Harbin was unofficially called the \"Russian city in China\". Many buildings were built in the Russian style or bore the names of Russian figures and merchants. For example, there was a Russian church in the city center and a department store named after the merchant Churin. The area where Russian refugees lived in Harbin is still preserved. Structures in this quarter are executed in the European style, for which it received the name of \"Eastern Moscow. There is a beautiful view of the navigable river, and if you wish, you will be provided with a pleasure boat to take you to \"Sunny Island\".<\/p>\n<p> In winter, the city is transformed, covered with snow and turning into a silver world.
