How to get from El Nido to Corona

By air, the distance from El Nido to Coron is only about 130 kilometers (81 miles). However, when you take the ferry, the route is not as direct and the trip can be longer in time and distance. The good news is that you have several options for routes from El Nido to Coron, including a flight and two different types of ferries, so you can find something that fits both your budget and time.

You might think that a plane is the fastest way to get from one island to another. This is certainly true: the flight takes only about 40 minutes. But you must remember that you must add to this time the time to travel to and from the airport, the time for check-in and the time for security. Even with this adjustment, however, you will still get there faster than the fastest ferry.

So, what flight options do you have? You are limited to only one airline, AirSWIFT. This company operates only a few routes in the Philippines, including from El Nido Airport to Francisco B. Reyes Airport on Busuanga Island, in the Coronne area. They currently fly four times a week, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, so you'll need to coordinate that with your schedule.

And be prepared to pay about double what you would pay for a fast ferry. So flying from El Nido to Coron will not be the right option for everyone, but if you have the money, it can save a lot of time.

While flights from El Nido to Coronne are not a bad option, most travelers prefer to travel by ferry. There used to be only a slow ferry option (more on that below), but now there is a good fast ferry that can take you to Coronne. The high-speed ferry can carry up to 140 passengers and offers seating on both the indoor, air-conditioned, TV and outdoor decks. Sea crossing time will be 4 hours, but it can be as long as 3.5 hours, depending on sea and weather conditions.

Keep in mind that the trip might take longer if the sea is rough and that the scheduled departure time might shift if the ferry operator is waiting for better weather. Montenegro Lines has one ferry from El Nido to Coron daily, and while it's a good price (slightly cheaper than a plane), there is one drawback - the departure is usually at 6 or 6:30 am, so you have to get up early, which won't suit everyone. There is another fast ferry from El Nido to Coron, it is provided by Phimal.

If you are hoping to save more money, consider the slow ferry from El Nido to Coronne. These ferries are wooden barges called bangkas, which are much more primitive than the high-speed ferry and use a much smaller engine, so the journey takes much longer.

Travel time on a slow ferry from El Nido to Coron can range from 6 to 9 hours, depending on weather and sea conditions. But keep in mind that even when the sea is calm, traveling on these boats will be less comfortable because they are smaller than the high-speed ferries. So if you are prone to seasickness, a slow ferry probably won't be a good idea.
