Why is Croatia so popular?

Named as the "Land of a Thousand Islands," Croatia is located on the Adriatic coast and includes more than a thousand islands. This European country is famous for its exquisite beaches, delicious food and wine, magnificent landscapes, historically significant cities, idyllic villages, exceptional architecture and ruins of the glorious Roman era. Home to a number of world heritage sites, Croatia is rich in historical and cultural sites that have made it a popular destination for vacationers. Croatia, with its capital Zagreb, borders countries such as Hungary, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro.

Historically, Croatia was known as the province of Pannonia in the Roman Empire. In the seventh century, Croats settled in the province and brought Christianity with them. The country witnessed the Byzantine and Frankish invasions in the 11th century. Croatia was an integral part of the Austro-Hungarian kingdom until its dissolution in 1918 and was renamed Yugoslavia in 1929. After the German defeat in World War I, the communist federation of Yugoslavia was formed. And after the German invasion, in 1941, Croatia acted as a puppet state for the Nazis. The constant desire for independence led to the formation of the independent Republic of Croatia.

Climate in Croatia



The climate of the coastal part of Croatia is pleasant, Mediterranean, with mild winters and sultry summers. Northern Croatia has a moderate continental climate, with cold winters and hot summers. Central Croatia and the mountainous area, has a typical mountainous climate. Along the Adriatic coast it is not hot in spring and fall. The winter season can be snowy in different parts of northern and central Croatia.

Culture



Croatian culture has deep roots, people have great respect for the land and its traditions, it is evident from the persistent efforts of Croats to gain independence, no matter what the circumstances. The influence of Mediterranean and Italian cultures is evident in the lifestyle and culture of the local population. The people of the country are diligent in preserving their rich cultural heritage of antiquities, sculpture, architecture and art.

Much of Croatia is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, and therefore, there is no shortage of tourist sites and attractions in this country.

Diocletian's Palace, located in Split, is also on the list of World Heritage Sites. The Palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian preserves its attractive appearance and is a relic of ancient Rome.

The Cathedral of St. Stephen, built in 1094, was destroyed in 1880 by an earthquake in parts. The cathedral is located on the island of Hvar. Since the twelfth century, the cathedral has housed religious manuscripts.

The Old City of Dubrovnik, located on the delightful Adriatic coast, symbolizes one of the most popular and desirable tourist destinations in Croatia and far beyond. The Old City is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The 4th century Euphrasean Basilica in Poreč is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The mosaic floor of the basilica and the Byzantine gilded mosaics are a great pleasure to contemplate.

Korcula Island, this island is known for its tranquil setting with extensive beaches, olive groves, vineyards, etc.
