The most famous and interesting waterfalls in Thailand

The waterfalls of Thailand are a natural attraction of the kingdom. And whichever resort area of the country you're vacationing in, you must visit the waterfalls.

Some of them are part of National Parks and Nature Reserves. Many have not yet been visited or described by experts, so you have the potential to travel around the country on your own and become their discoverer.

Thi Lo Su

Thi Lo Su (Thi Lo Su) is generally recognized as the largest waterfall in Southeast Asia. It is located near the town of Umpang, at an altitude of 900 m above sea level.

It takes at least 4 hours to get to the waterfall by a mountain serpentine. Tourists like to watch this miracle of nature in the morning hours, when many small seven-color rainbows appear over the water space (200 meters high and 500 meters wide). If you want to swim, you should know that behind the waterfall there is a cave with a natural pool filled with water.

There is a camping area near the National Park office building. Self-guided hikers settle here for a few days, hike up to the second level of the waterfall to admire the local panoramic views, or take a hike through the surrounding impenetrable jungle.

Mae Ya Waterfall

If you go on an excursion to Doi Inthanon National Park, be sure to visit Mae Ya Waterfall.

It is located in the southern part of the national park and is accessed by the southern loop of the paved hiking trail, starting from Chom tong.

There is an asphalt road that takes you to the waterfall. It's only a 600-meter walk along a scenic gently sloping path, and the 280-meter-high cascading beauty is in front of you.

Mae Surin Waterfall

Nam Tok Surin National Park is the owner of Mae Surin Waterfall, a hundred-meter single-level waterfall. This is the province of Mae Hong Son and the nearest town, Khun Yuam, is 30 km away.

The originality lies in the fact that the water from a hundred meters high falls into the gorge. For the convenience of tourists, the park administration has equipped an observation deck, you will see it 100 meters from the parking lot.

The view of the waterfall is often obscured by clouds due to the height of 1,500 meters. Enthusiasts can also get closer to the waterfall by taking the path in the form of a mountain serpentine, the height of which is 1400-1550 m above sea level.

Khlong Lan

In Kampaeng Pet province, you will be invited to visit Khlong Lan National Park, with its famous hundred-meter waterfall - Khlong Lan. The most accessible waterfall cascade is near the parking lot and the main office of the park.

This place is popular with Thais who like to spend Week End here. You can swim in the natural pool of the waterfall. Khlong Lan is full all year round, but during the rainy season it shocks tourists with the roar of water streams. And swimming at this time can be dangerous.

Extremes prefer to overcome the difficult path upwards and reach the upper natural pool. It is formed by the waters of five mountain streams. Here, too, you can swim, relax in solitude, and take memorable panoramic photos.

Erawan waterfall

Erawan National Park, located in Kanchanaburi province, is famous for its seven-cascade Erawan waterfall. The shapes of the waterfall boulders really resemble a three-headed sacred animal, one of the symbols of Thailand.

The waterfall is popular with Thais, they come here as families, swimming, relaxing. Above the third tier the locals usually do not go up, so the pools of the first levels are always very crowded. Along the entire waterfall (1500 meters), through the jungle, laid a trail that can be used to get to the sixth level. And, after overcoming the rock, you will get to the seventh, like the rest of the cascades, there is also a pool. But only the desperate daredevils dare to climb here and admire the opening views. Erawan also amazes with its water, its color varies from blue to emerald.

Huay Mae Kamin Waterfall

But the most beautiful waterfall in Kanchanaburi province is Huai Mae Kamin.

Huai Mae Kamin is just behind Erawan Falls, and the road to it begins at the foot of Erawan. It is a 40-kilometer dusty mountain serpentine road surrounded by forest.

That's why there aren't many tourists or Thais here. Once you cross the path, you will see a bizarre seven-level waterfall with emerald clear water. The trail takes you to the seventh level, where there is an observation deck, providing an opportunity to enjoy the surrounding views and falling water, washed by huge boulders. After overcoming all obstacles, the river flows into a lake surrounded by woodland.

Khun Kon

The province of Chiang Rai is famous for its 70-meter-high Khun Kon waterfall. It is a single cascading waterfall that falls into an unusually scenic ravine covered with tropical forest.

There is a trail that leads to the waterfall through an exotic forest. There are mountain streams along the way, with bamboo planks across them for your convenience. If you decide to visit this beautiful part of the kingdom, it is worth knowing that it is located 30 km from Chiang Rai. You should take Highway 1 or 1211 towards Chiang Mai. For your convenience, there is parking and camping area near the waterfall.

Wachirathan

Heading into Doi Inthanon National Park and following the signs, you can turn to Wachirathan Falls, a 40-meter waterfall located 750 meters above sea level. The highlight of the waterfall: the jets fall on a granite slab, forming an unusually beautiful mist-water curtain.

You can observe the miracle of nature while standing on a specially equipped wooden deck. But you will not be able to take pictures, because everything is immediately splashed with water, including the lens. And visitors are reminded of the utmost caution on the slippery stones. There are no places to swim here, either. But there is an opportunity to look in a souvenir shop and sit in a small restaurant, which is located next to the parking lot.

Namtok Phlio

Just 14 km from the city of Chantaburi is Namtok Phlio, a national park of Thailand, with a waterfall of the same name. A special feature of the waterfall are the amazing fish.

A favorite activity of tourists is to feed the fish that live in the natural pools located near each level. Food, if desired, can be purchased at the entrance (150 baht - 5 kilograms). Here you can also swim.

There is a trail to the upper tiers of the waterfall, which is 1200 meters long. The waterfall can also be viewed from the observation deck located nearby on the mountain. All guests leave, overwhelmed with positive emotions from the beauty that the nature of Thailand.

Ron Khlong Thom

The famous waterfall with healing hot mineral water, Ron Khlong Thom, is located next to the Emerald Pool. Whichever cascade you climb, it's crowded everywhere.

Many people can sit for hours in the natural bowls, moving from one bowl to another, exposing themselves to streams of falling healing water. It is better to arrive before 9 am, to have time before the arrival of the main stream of tourists. If you are resting with children, it is worth bearing in mind that the bowls are quite deep, but not slippery.

Waterfall Part Num Yot

Experienced travelers recommend visiting the Waterfall Part Num Yot, which is not in the guidebooks. But Thais know about it and like to hold traditional picnics in its vicinity. There is water in it only in the rainy season, and in the dry season it is preserved exclusively in a small lake.

The rocks that form the waterfall are striking. These are a variety of stalactites, covered with moss and forming bizarre patterns. From a distance, one gets the impression that the water has frozen in the process of falling and turned into falling stone cascades.

The waterfall is lost in the dense jungle, and you can get here using a navigator. You will get to the place with the corresponding sign. After 300 m there is a trail through the jungle, which is 2.5 km long. There are blue signs all around for orientation - don't get lost.

Khao Lan

The Khao Lan waterfall in Huay Yang National Park is not much visited by tourists due to the lack of a good road. If you are attracted to traversing overgrown trails, mountain streams, you are here.

Some waterfalls are rarely visited by tourists due to their remoteness from the main tourist routes and resort areas. These are Namtok Huai Yang, Namtok Kha On, Pa La U, Sai Yok, Mae Klang and Sirithan waterfalls.
