Chinatown in Bangkok

Along with the island of Phuket and many other resorts, Bangkok is considered one of the most interesting and colorful places to visit. It would be far from complete if you didn't take some time to get to know the city, to visit Chinatown (China town), because it is obvious that a self-respecting tourist with a thirst for unforgettable memories will definitely take advantage of such a fascinating opportunity.

Chinatown in Bangkok has a rather fascinating history. More than 200 years have passed since the appearance of Chinese residents here, right after Rama I founded the city in 1782. Even centuries later, the Chinese have not fully integrated into the distinctive Thai culture that surrounds them, retaining the original Chinese features of life.

Poor farmers who had fled all sorts of persecution often moved here from China, and since immigrants were forbidden to settle outside the Great Palace, they formed their own conglomeration. At present, the quarter covers the area from Charoen Krung Road to Yaowarat Road. It is home to 60% of all the Chinese in the city.

How to get there

You can get to Chinatown by buses number 1, 7, 8, 37 49, 75, cabs, tuk-tuks, as well as by the Bangkok subway: BTS - ground and MRT - underground subway. You will need to go to Ratchawong Crossing Pier, go up to Ratchawong Sampeng Lane - it is a long narrow street, and there you will see a huge ceremonial Chinese gate.

The best way to get there would still be the river express. They run quite often, so you should have no trouble. River ferries depart from Saphan Taksin and Banglamploo piers. Swim to Pier 8 at Tha Ratchawong, which is next to Yaowarat Rd and Sampeng Lane.
