Some analogies may arise with the Amsterdam alley of the same name. In fact, the idea of the street is similar. However, in terms of content, there is more difference than commonality.

Soi Cowboy: briefly

Red Light Street in Bangkok is not even a street at all but a small alley 100 meters long that runs parallel to central Sukhumvit Rd. and connects Soi Sukhumvit 23 and Asok Rd. There are 25 go-go bars on such a short stretch.

It's quiet during the day: the bars open for visitors in the afternoon, at 3 or 4 p.m. The alley comes alive in the evening. The façade of each establishment shimmers in neon colors, attracting passersby with loud music.

There are open verandahs with tables, closed rooms with stages/stands and dancers on them. A single man can be accompanied by a girl or a ladyboy, as transvestites are called here.

It is no secret that there are many transvestites on call in Thailand. There is a widespread belief that ladyboys pretend to be women, thus deceiving their clients until the very last moment. This is not true. A ladyboy will always identify himself so that there are no problems with misunderstanding the situation for either him or the client.

The go-go bars are open until 2 or 3 a.m. Here, on Soi Cowboy, there are small gest houses that rent rooms by the hour.

It would be wrong to assume that all of these establishments operate exclusively for men looking for the company of women. On the outdoor terraces you can often see couples and companies who simply decide to relax while walking in the area.

The best places on Red Light Street

Deja Vu

Not a bad place with a traditional interior: a long high stage with eight staves for dancers and a transparent ceiling above. The bar staff is friendly and tactful, perhaps even more so than in any other place.

It is believed that the girls at the restaurant speak English more or less well, not limited to duty phrases.

Tilac

Tilak's bar is very popular. It's new, big and bright. There is one big stage in the center, bar counters and 6 small podiums around it. There are 15 to 20 dancers at a time.

In addition, there is a room with a large screen, which broadcasts sports events. The prices are quite reasonable. Late at night this place is often crowded.

Kiss

A nice bar with a crimson-lit facade, but one of the more expensive drinks inside. The price of a local beer can be as high as $5, whereas in neighboring establishments it ranges around $3-4.

There are happy hours, during which discounts are given, from seven to half past nine in the evening. The stage for the dancers is tiered, surrounded by two rows of red couches.

Sheba's

A comfortable place both in terms of interior atmosphere and bar prices. On weekends, when a lot of people gather, there are performances, including dancing.

Shark

This bar has reasonable prices. Especially if you come here before 8 p.m.: all drinks are $2.5. Otherwise it's just like other places: a stage in the middle, sofas in a circle and a transparent ceiling.

Baccara

The Baccarat Go-Go Bar is located at the end of the street, but it is nevertheless one of the most popular, especially among visitors from Japan. It's not uncommon to find a vacant seat here. Inside, there are several rows of comfortable couches standing in a circle.

Sahara

A roomy bar decorated in the unusual Soi Cowboy style, with a light tone. It's also not cheap, just like Kiss. The girls at the bar are said to be pushy in their desire to woo the customer for a martini or two.
