It is considered to be the largest city in Europe, as its territory includes the surrounding villages.

The tourist attraction of Rovaniemi is that it combines the features of a real European city and a remote northern settlement. You can reach the resort by plane from Helsinki (it takes about 1.5 hours) or by train (about 12 hours). There is also a bus connection with Murmansk.

Since Rovaniemi is considered the birthplace of Santa Claus or Santa Claus, this city has become very popular among those who travel with children. Here is located Santa's village and "Sanata Park" with all sorts of attractions, cafes and souvenir shops. Also, children and their parents will be interested in the largest northern zoo "Ranua", which presents a variety of animals and plants that live in this area. These include wolves, lynxes, polar bears, moose, and other representatives of northern fauna. Animal lovers can also take an excursion to a reindeer farm.

For tourists who prefer more active types of recreation, dog and reindeer sledding is excellent. Also right in the city limits there is an excellent ski resort Ounasvaara, where competitions in skiing are held. Here you can go cross-country and downhill skiing and snowboarding. The ski season in Rovaniemi begins in October and lasts until April.
