What to take with you to Thailand - basic, useful, unnecessary

What should I take with me to Thailand? First, put aside the things you would like to take with you. And then it's worth thinking hard about what you really can't do without on your trip.

Do not forget that you will want to buy new things on vacation, and you'll walk in them, and those that you bring will hang in the closet.

 You don't need to bring

It's warm in Thailand, so one set of warm clothes, just in case, is enough (jeans, sweater-jacket, jacket, sneakers). Just in case there are trips to the north of the country, motorcycle rides, and long journeys in air-conditioned trains and buses.

You can leave home in this warm kit. And if you leave in our winter, take care of the transfer to the airport, so you do not have to take extra winter clothes. A set of summer clothes is better to have in hand luggage - experienced tourists change already on the plane. As a rule:

  • Take a minimum of summer clothes and shoes. The Thai stores offer a huge range of products and affordable prices.
  • Waterproof jacket or raincoat is necessary, but much easier and more profitable to buy a raincoat of cellophane on the spot.
  • Tourists planning an independent vacation may be in need of utensils. In Thai stores you will spend a mere penny.
  • Bed linen and towels will be provided for you on site. As a last resort, everything can be bought very cheaply.
  • Cosmetic hygiene products are available in sufficient quantities everywhere. You should only take something specific and personal hygiene items with you.

The main thing to take

Airline tickets and passport (several copies of it). Sometimes they will ask you to leave a document as collateral, so copies will do.

Travel insurance. In Thailand, medicine is expensive, and having insurance will make life much easier in case of unforeseen health problems. And for tourists traveling with children, insurance will add reassurance and peace of mind. Read about why you need insurance in Thailand.

International driving license A, B. If you plan to rent a motorcycle, you need an international category A driver's license. The police rarely check them, but Pattaya and Phuket are exceptions. The penalty for driving without a license is about 500 baht. For driving without a helmet - 400 baht. In the event of an insurance event, a driver's license is mandatory.

Money and bank cards. It is better to take a small amount of money in currency (dollars, euros), and the bulk of the money brought on the card. The bank card should be a Mastercard or Visa. It does not matter what money you have on the card. At ATMs or bank branches you will be given baht - money of Thailand (your national currency is first converted into dollars, and then into baht). And ATMs charge a fee - 180 baht. If you will cash in a bank, you will need a passport, and 180 baht you will not pay.

Money can be exchanged at currency exchange offices. At the airport it is better to change the minimum, as the rate is always less favorable. It is preferable to change the main amount at the bank branches. Keep in mind that in Thailand, large bills are exchanged at a better rate than small ones.

How much money to take

It is difficult to answer this question unequivocally. Everyone has their own plans and preferences.

It is easier for those who go on a tour package and pay in advance for accommodation and transportation. It's even easier for those who have an all-inclusive tour. Then you need to estimate an additional amount for out-of-pocket expenses and shopping.

How much money to take to Thailand

Well, those who will organize your own vacation, it is worth checking out the average figures in advance, the usual tourist spending to determine the amount.

Housing

Prices for accommodation in Thai resort areas depend, as elsewhere, on the proximity of the sea, the services provided and the class of the hotel. A bed in a guest house can be found for 100 baht per night, bungalow without amenities - 300-400 baht. The house with a shower and air conditioning on the first line - 1000 baht, more distant from the sea or the river lodging - cheaper. There are high-end offers, where prices will be much higher.

Transportation

Transportation costs also depend on your requests. Car rental (usually Japanese cars) - about 1000 baht per day, motorcycles - 300 baht. Cab - from 100 baht, depending on the distance. Public transportation - 10-20 baht. Thrifty vacationers can afford 3,000-5,000 baht for two weeks.

Nutrition

Do not forget to include money for food. Breakfast in a cafe will cost you a maximum of 200 baht, lunch - almost twice as expensive (excluding alcohol). Prices for alcohol in Thailand start at 100 baht. Bars and cafes like to hold all sorts of promotions and happy hours, when the prices of products plummet. It is worth considering that the food sold on the street or in the market will cost you much cheaper.

Excursions

Excursions and entertainment make up a significant amount of your expenses. Keep in mind that the average price of an excursion is usually 2500-3000 baht. Therefore it is rational to save money on this, and all the important places to visit on your own. Separately, consider visiting restaurants, nightclubs, other entertainment venues, sports activities - is another few thousand.

Shopping

Adapter for euro sockets. Connecting cord for two laptops via LAN. Useful if you are traveling alone and plan to stay in private homes. There may be wired internet.

Unworkable bank card to leave it as collateral - often required when renting a bike. Never agree to leave your passport - it is your main document in a foreign country. If something happens to the bike through your fault, or the fault of a third party, then you will be on the "hook", and is likely to ask for the repair of the bike in three times the price.

It's very hot in Thailand, and if you don't protect your skin, it can burn. Therefore, sunscreen is a must. It can be bought locally, if you do not prefer any particular company. Do not forget the sunglasses and headgear.

Repellent against mosquitoes and other insects - you can't do without it either. From evening until morning in some areas, mosquitoes are simply brutal. It is worth knowing that the local market offers a wide range of products of this spectrum, made in view of the peculiarities of local insects. But if you think that your usual remedies are the most effective, take them.

If you plan to go snorkeling or rent a motorcycle (motorcycle), bring a mask and goggles for swimming, or good glasses for riding a motorcycle. Necessary equipment, of course, can be rented, but its quality leaves much to be desired.

stuff to Thailand

If you have planned several flights or travel in your trip, experienced travelers recommend, if possible, to make do with backpack as hand luggage and refuse to carry luggage.

  1. Spends a lot of time getting luggage;
  2. If you fly low-cost airlines, you have to pay extra for luggage;
  3. With frequent flights it is possible to lose luggage.

It is worth considering that airlines have specific requirements for the size of hand luggage: 55 cm-40 cm-20 cm and its weight - 7-8 kilograms. But if your hand luggage is slightly out of these requirements, they may turn a blind eye. Do not forget that a bag with a laptop, camera or camcorder is not considered luggage.

If you decide to use a backpack, choose, if possible, a model with lots of pockets and less weight. A roomy cloth bag will also work for your trip - there will be a lot of shopping. Do not forget the purse on the belt (convenient and safe to store money and documents).
