How to get from Bangkok to Ko Chang: Routes and Prices

Developed land transport and a sufficient number of ferries allow you to get from Bangkok to the beaches of the island in 6-7 hours. The road to Ko Chang is conventionally divided into two stages: from Bangkok to Trat, then by sea to the island.

Flight from Suvarnabhumi to Ko Chang

Данный способ занимает лидирующие позиции по скорости и комфорту среди другого транспорта. Но учтите – это один самых дорогих способов. Время в пути – 60 минут. В виду отсутствия аэропорта на острове, самолеты из Бангкока прибывают в аэропорт Трат (Trat Airport). За перелет до Трат придется заплатить 2500 -3200 бат в зависимости от дней недели.

Из Бангкока полеты совершают 2 рейса в день – в низкий сезон и 3 раза – в высокий – компания Bangkok Airways. Лайнеры вылетают в 08:20, 11:40 и 17:00. Следует отметить, что воспользовавшись рейсом в 17:00 есть вероятность опоздать на последний паром до Ко Чанга.

The distance between the airport terminal and the pier is about 17 km. It will have to be covered by minibuses, sungteo or cabs.

By bus from Suvarnabhumi Airport

From Suvarnabhumi you can also take a bus or minibus if you think it is expensive to travel by plane.

Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office, located on the first floor of the airport near Gate 8. Free shuttle buses will take you from the airport to the departure stop to the island.

To Ko Chang there is a large VIP tourist bus number 392, which makes only one trip at 7:50 (back - at 14:40 from Trat bus station, or at 13:00 from Ko Chang). The ticket price of 400 baht includes transportation to the pier and the ferry, or 240 baht if you go only to Trat.

The carrier makes stops in Pattaya, Rayong, and Trat.

The Lonely Beach Express minibus is even quicker and has no transfers. The destination of this flight is Ko Chang, Lonely beach. From the airport minivans make 3 trips: at 7:30, 11:00 and 14:00. One way ticket costs 600 baht, for 800 baht both ways.

From Don Muang Airport

If the plane arrives at Bangkok's Don Muang Airport, the tourist should do the following: take a cab to Kaosan Road or Victory Monument, and there already choose any of the following options.

By the way, cabs in Bangkok work exclusively on the meter, but there are times when it is worth reminding the driver. So for the distance from Don Muang will have to pay only 150-250 baht.

Public transportation to Koh Chang

Public transport goes to Ko Chang from Ekamai Bus Terminal, Mo Chit, Suvarnabhumi Airport, Victory Monument Metro Station, and Kaosan Road, one of Bangkok's main streets. In most cases, the trip from these points to the pier takes 5-6 hours.

To get from the pier to Chang, you have to use the sea connection.

Crossing time depends on the pier chosen: from Ao Thammachat pier ships arrive in a quarter of an hour, and from Center Point - in 50 minutes.

From Ekkamai and Mo Chit Bus Stations

Victory Monument – Ко Чанг

Одним из самых быстрых, комфортных и дешевых способов добраться на Чанг является использование минибаса (mini van) от Victory Monument. Это нелегальный автовокзал напротив памятника Победы, под пешеходным мостом у одноименной станции столичного метрополитена – BTS Victory Monument.

It is located in the heart of Bangkok and can be reached in about 40 minutes from Suvarnabhumi Airport. The only difference from the usual bus stop is the "Koh Chang" sign in Thai and English.

The local minibuses run from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. and depart from the station at an enviable regularity of one hour. The trip takes about 5 hours and costs 300-400 baht (usually the ferry ticket is already included).

Minibuses usually go as far as Trat. There for 50-100 baht you can take a songteo to Ao Thammachat pier. Then you can take a ferry and a songteo for 80-150 baht to the hotel, depending on the distance.

With the driver you can arrange a transfer to the hotel on the island, but it is better not to do, because the car queue for the ferry is so large that it is necessary to skip several ferry trips.

This does not happen with pedestrian queues, so you can board the ship as soon as you arrive at the pier. Cab drivers charge from 4,000 baht for their services. It is important to remember that bargaining with them is not only appropriate, but necessary. At the end of the haggling you can leave for 2500 baht. On average, you can count on the cost of 3500 baht. But it is not profitable to go alone, it is cheaper to take a plane.

Maritime traffic

There are two piers on Koh Chang: Ao Sapparot (or Feery Koh Chang) and Center Point (or Dan Khao). In Trat the main pier is Ao Thammachat.

The other piers only offer overnight hotels and boat tickets from other piers.

Ao Thammachat Pier

The pier is the most convenient and familiar among tourists on their way to Koh Chang. Most of the traffic from Bangkok arrives here. Ferries from this pier arrive at Ao Sapparot Pier on Ko Chang.

Don't count on the last flight at 7 p.m. to Ko Chang, and 7:30 p.m. from the island, as they are often cancelled.

Laem Ngop Fishing Jetty Pier

Laem Ngop is located near the Center Point pier. Public transportation does not take travelers to it. On your own, too, it makes no sense to go there.

The only thing is that you can stay overnight if the final ferry trip is canceled or you are late, and in the morning you can leave for another pier. There is also a travel agency near the pier that sells ferry tickets from Center Point.

How to get to the beaches
