Thailand: Similan Islands

Similan is a small group of uninhabited islands in the Andaman Sea. These islands are among the 10 most picturesque in the world. It is an ideal place for diving. Jungle, snow-white beaches, palm groves, azure sea - no one can forget the rest spent here.

When preparing a trip to these wonderful islands, you should remember that during the rainy season (from May to October) Similan Islands are closed to visitors, because during this period of strong northwest winds rages, and the ocean does not calm down for a minute. The best time to visit the resort is January through April. The average annual humidity is 83% and the temperature is +27.

There are no hostels, hostels, or luxury hotels. You can only stay on two islands. There are 4 and 2-bed tents or small bungalows in which you can stay for a couple of nights. There are also several cafes and restaurants on the islands where you can try traditional cuisine.

Similan is a unique place. No one can remain indifferent to the pristine nature, the diversity of the underwater world and pristine reefs. There are a large number of wonderful conditions for diving.

The most popular place on Island 8 is Elephant Head Rock. A variety of flora and fauna amazes everyone with its fabulous beauty. In addition to mantis crayfish, parrotfish, sea turtles, spider crabs, cuttlefish, wingsnails and fire gobies that permanently inhabit the place, even reef sharks can be found. Vaults and dizzying tunnels, labyrinthine corridors and gorges sharply distinguish the terrain here from other landscapes. Beginners should not dive into the water, as there is often a very strong current. Also, on the same island is Fantasy Reef, which stands out from all the others with its powerful granite formations. This place is recommended only to experienced divers.

The Breakfast Bend off Island 9 is a choice for divers of all levels. In the morning it is insanely beautiful: the sun lights up the entire underwater world, and it is possible to see everything to the smallest detail. Barracudas, butterfly fish, colorful fish, leopard sharks, turtles - they all permanently inhabit this bright and picturesque kingdom. Mid-level divers will love Christmas Point, which features parrot fish, soft corals and leopard sharks. In addition, huge corridors and boulders to swim through make the journey to the abode of sea creatures even more exciting.

The east coast of Island 6 also has a great place for divers of all levels - East of Eden. Underwater photography enthusiasts will also be attracted to this spot: one of the largest coral ledges and a weak current do the trick. Here you can admire red, blue, coral and yellow trees, sea dogs, false fire corals, frog fish and sea turtles swimming in shallow water.
