In ancient times there were many legends about the northern lights. This natural phenomenon is very beautiful and fascinating. Aurora Borealis occurs when the upper parts of the atmosphere interact with the solar wind. To observe the northern lights, you need to have the sun as high as possible, the place of observation was outside the city, and it was a clear frosty evening. There are places on the planet, where the northern lights are very frequent. There are six such places: Norway, Finland, Sweden, Iceland and Russia.

Norway is a very popular country where tourists go to see the northern lights. Such tourists can be called "aurora borealis hunters. "Hunters" go to the north of Norway and to the islands of Spitsbergen.

Those who have sailed around the coast of Norway on a liner have a better chance of seeing the northern lights.

Sweden. Here the northern lights are most often observed in the city of Kiruna, or rather outside the city, where they are not disturbed by the light of the city lights.

In Canada, this natural wonder can be seen near the Great Lakes, which are located in Ontario. But you have to snowmobile to get there.

Iceland has developed tourism for the northern lights quite well. There are specialists who work here to find a point in the suburbs of Reykjavik where the northern lights are likely to be clearly visible in the near future. Tourists are then signaled and invited to a viewing platform at that location.

In Finland, the northern lights are seen very often, about 200 times a year. There are two seasons in which it occurs: February to March and September to October. You can get to your destination by snowmobile, skiing, or reindeer sledding. That's a lot of fun, too.

And in Russia you can admire the northern lights on the Kola Peninsula, including around Murmansk. Here, too, you can combine pleasant things: while waiting for the aurora, you can go skiing or snowboarding.
