Islands of Italy: Capri
What do we know about this island? Many people remember from school curriculum that Maxim Gorky lived in Capri, and that this island is located in Italy. That's probably all.
The islands of Italy Capri is a very small island, its coastline is only seventeen kilometers. It has precipitous shores, picturesque caves, grottoes, cliffs, lush vegetation and fabulous little coves. Pablo Neruda called Capri "Queen of cliffs". The azure sea near the island is so clear that even at a depth of ten meters you can see the sea creatures.
The island has two small towns - Capri (the administrative center) and Anacapri.
The city of Anacapri is situated on a hill that rises above the capital. In ancient times they were connected by the Phoenician staircase. The ascent along it is still possible today and takes about an hour and a half (921 steps and 1.7 km) and the descent takes about 40 minutes. From Anacapri, after taking the cable car, you can find yourself on Monte Solare, which offers exceptional views of the Bay of Naples, with its islands and coastal towns. In ancient times, the Emperor Tiberius, who left Rome and sought solitude, lived on Capri. The ruins of one of the several villas he built on the island have survived.
