How to get from Phuket to Samui - plane, bus, cab, ferry

The islands of Phuket and Samui are located in the waters of different oceans, which excludes the possibility of reaching exclusively by sea. But no matter how it sounds, getting from Phuket to Koh Samui is easy enough.

The distance can be covered by air - this is one of the fastest and at the same time the most expensive way. The most budget-friendly option is a combination of land and sea transport.

Take the planning of the trip responsibly, otherwise you can spend a day on the road.

The direct distance between the islands is about 260 km, but because of the geographical location of the islands, the route of land communication is extended by 80 km and is 340 km.

By plane

Phuket - Samui flight. Direct flights are operated by Bangkok Airways, priced at 3,100 baht. Six flights a day on AT 7 liners, travel time 1 hour.

Tourists who want to save money on flights can use the services of other airlines.

Remember that there are no more direct flights and you have to change in Bangkok.

An interesting option is Airasia to Nakhon Si Tammarat (NST) with a connection in the capital (Phuket to Bangkok, Bangkok to Nakhon Si Tammarat). From Nakhon Si Tammarat, take a bus to Donsak area and from there take a ferry to Samui. Ferries run every hour.

The price of such a one-way trip will be 2,200 baht, including the bus ticket. The travel time is 15 hours.

On the bus.

The cheapest way to get from Phuket to Samui is to take a bus and then take a ferry. Although the journey takes 6 hours (4.5 hours by land, 1.5 by sea), you will have to spend the whole day on the road, since there are no night flights.

Prices depend on the chosen carrier and the class of the bus. Buses from Phuket Town depart from Bus Terminal 2. In Samui, it arrives directly to the ferry stations in Don Sak (back the same way).

The first and only flight from Phuket Town departs at 9:00 a.m. and arrives at Don Sak Pier at 1:40 p.m. There is a 15-minute stop on the routes, about 2.5 hours from the start of the trip. The journey will cost 450 baht, including the ferry ticket. Tickets can only be purchased at the bus station ticket office, which is open from 07:30.

The next step is to cross the bay on the ferry called Seatran. The end point of the journey to Samui can be either the Nathon Pier or the new bus terminal. From Nathon Pier to the beaches you can take a cab or sungteo.

There are also connections from Phuket to Samui in Surat Thani. One trip per hour from 07:00 to 17:00 are minivans. At 08:00, 10:00, 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00 buses, priced at 195 baht. Then from the bus station in Surat Thani, take a bus to Don Sak Pier and then take a ferry to Nathon Pier. The price is 300 baht including the ferry.

Phantip Travel, a well-known company in southern Thailand, can help those who wish to travel this distance. It has its own fleet of vehicles and offers a convenient shuttle service at a price of 450 baht, including the ferry. There are two daily departures from Samui at 07:30 and 09:30, and three from Phuket at 08:00, 09:00, 10:00.

You can buy a ticket for such a trip at the office or website of the carrier, at Nathon Pier or at any travel agency. The office is located at 11/4 Moo 3, Taveeradpakdee Rd, Nathon. It is near Krungsri Bank, 100 meters from Nathon Pier. The service can be arranged for an extra 200 baht to take customers directly to their hotel on the island.

There is also a company called Lomprayah. It also organizes transfers between the islands in both directions. And the speed of transportation and its price is higher than that of the competitor. The Phuket-Samui route begins by bus, then by high-speed catamaran. This transfer starts from the firm's office in Phuket Town and ends at the Nathon Pier on Samui Island. On this route the only flight: Phuket - Samui at 10:00 and 16:45, Samui - Phuket at 12:45 - 21:00, respectively. Transfer price varies between 750 baht.

By cab

All cabs take the same route as the buses. But its price exceeds the price of the flight. The difference is that to get on the liner the tourist pays for one ticket, and by cab - for the car. Therefore, the obvious benefit awaits if there are several people in the company. The price varies from 3,500 to 6,000 baht (bargain with cab drivers). The trip takes about 5 hours.

On a rented vehicle

To get to Seatran or Raja piers of Donzak district in Suratkhani. From Patong it takes about 4 hours by car; by bike about 7-8 hours. Car and bike can be loaded onto the ferry to Samui.

The ferry ticket costs 150 baht, with an additional 50 baht for the bike. Flights start at 5 a.m. at Raja Pier, until 7 p.m. Departures at hourly intervals
