The city is situated on a high plateau, which is almost always flooded with sunshine. Maybe that's why Perugia is often called the "city of sunshine.

Since the Middle Ages, the griffin and the lion have been the symbols of the city. And like these warlike mythical creatures, Perugia fought frequent wars with its neighbors and between its clans. Today, however, it is a very cozy and pleasant city where you can feel at home.

There are many beautiful architectural monuments here. Among them are numerous Romanesque churches, the ancient Christian church of San Angelo, the Gothic cathedral and the Fountain of Maggiore in front of it.

The National Gallery, located in the Gothic Palazzo Comunale, is a must-see. In the exposition of the gallery are the works of many famous artists of the Renaissance.

On the walls of the Collegio del Cambio can be seen magnificent frescoes by Perugino. The Umbrian region gave the world many great masters such as Pinturicchio, Luca Signorelli and Perugino. The great Raphael also worked in Perugia.

It is not only religious monuments that brought fame to the city of the sun. Here in 1308 by decree of Pope Clement the Fifth, the University was founded, which is located within the walls of Olivertan monastery. Over the years it educated 11 popes.
