Krabi Hot Springs: Open-air Healing Treatments

The province of Krabi, located in the southern part of Thailand, is famous primarily for its unique natural attractions. One of them is the healing thermal springs.
You can visit them as part of a tour from a local travel agency and on their own.
Find the hot springs of Krabi on the map is easy enough: they are all located south of the administrative center of the same name along the highway that leads to Trang.
Krabi Hot Springs
To get to Krabi Hot Springs, drive towards Trang and pass the airport. At 15 kilometers from the airport you will see a signpost, after which you must turn right.
There are several swimming pools with different water temperatures, so you can easily choose the most suitable option. The area is landscaped: in between bathing you can walk through the shady alleys and admire the altars and fountains, or just take a nap in the gazebo. For those who plan to stay overnight, cozy cottages are provided.
Nattha Waree Hot Springs
The sanatorium of the same name is located 200 meters further along the highway.
This place is extremely popular.
It has everything you need for a comfortable stay - shared pools and individual warm water pools. (temperature ranges from 39°C to 49°C)The hotel has a swimming pool with cold water for those who want to cool down a little, showers, changing rooms, storage, well-groomed alleys for walking, numerous gazebos for picnics, several buildings with rooms of different classes and even a special pool with fish, where you can enjoy a nice foot massage, and along with doing exotic exotic peeling.
Hot Springs Waterfall
The most famous hot springs of Krabi are located near Khlong Thom. To visit them, you must first turn left at the traffic light (there is only one traffic light in this town), and then turn right, then you can easily navigate according to the signs.
This place is more suitable for those who prefer to rest among wildlife and can safely do without some of the benefits of civilization. Here water procedures are taken not in the arranged pools, but in natural whirlpools, which were formed among the rocks under the influence of the current.
The water temperature in all mini-pools is the same - about 40-42°C.
Водопад состоит из нескольких уровней с небольшими “ваннами” и стекает в реку, к которой можно спуститься по лестнице или на тарзанке. Поклонники контрастных процедур любят окунаться в ее прохладные воды после принятия теплых ванн.
Many vacationers prefer to swim in the river under the very hot jets, in this place the water temperature is constantly changing from warm to cool.

After hydromassage treatments you can have a picnic (there are benches and tables) or order a revitalizing massage.
There are two other interesting attractions within a short drive of these springs - Emerald and Blue Lakes.
Emerald Lake is stunningly beautiful: its crystal-clear waters shimmer with all shades of turquoise. This natural body of water is fed by several streams of thermal water that flow out of the jungle. You can swim here, as long as the water does not seem too hot (about 50°C). By the way, at the bottom of the lake there are also several thermal springs, which heat the water and provide a whirlpool effect.
Looking at photos of Blue Lake on the Internet, it's hard to believe it's not a photoshop. In this unique body of water live special luminous bacteria, which give the water an unreal azure hue.
Here you can observe an interesting natural phenomenon: the water of this lake contains a large amount of sulfur, and if you pat or otherwise make noise on the shore, bubbles begin to rise from the bottom. It is forbidden to swim here, and a security guard monitors the observance of this rule.
Salty Hot Springs Khlong Thom and Saline Hot Springs Khlongthom
These two springs are also located near the town of Khlong Thom - you need to pass the traffic lights and follow the signs.
Local thermal waters are considered the most healing: they contain the most useful minerals. It is here most often come to treat and prevent various diseases of the musculoskeletal apparatus and nervous system.
Some experts also claim that regular visits to local pools help maintain healthy and beautiful skin.
There are about a dozen swimming pools with water of different temperatures (from 38°C to 55°C). There are also changing rooms, showers and toilets. If you want, you can use the services of a masseur.
Useful Tips for Visiting the Springs
Experienced travelers recommend:
- Before entering a pool or lake, it is better to check the temperature of the water. In some places, the water is very hot.
- It is absolutely necessary to adhere to the recommendations concerning the time of stay in the water. Too long a bath can lead to serious health problems (even in perfectly healthy people).
- If you plan to bathe in several pools with different water temperatures, it is better to start with the coolest one. After each bath it is recommended to take a short break. You can continue only if you feel well.
- It is better to plan a trip to the springs on a weekday. The healing waters are popular not only with tourists, but also with locals. Thais often come here for holidays and weekends. During the vacations, the springs are also crowded: schools regularly organize excursions to these places.
- Do not go to the springs in the morning. Most travel agencies plan excursions at this time. So, if you want to avoid unnecessary crowding, come at dawn or closer to evening. In addition, in the cooler hours (morning and late evening) hot baths are easier on the body.
- It is better to stock up on food and drinking water in advance. Prices are likely to be higher on the spot. And near some springs there are no outlets at all.
- To avoid catching a cold after swimming, you should bring a change of clothes and towels. In some complexes towels are included in the price of admission tickets, but not all.
- It is not advisable for girls to swim in too revealing outfits. Conservative locals (especially Muslims) are unlikely to appreciate a fashionable bikini. If you don't want to be judged, wear a pareo.
- For long journeys it is better to choose a car. A couple of dozen kilometers you can ride a bike. But if you plan to visit more remote sources, it is better to rent a car. It will be easier to endure a long trip in the heat and sun.
- Do not plan to do much after visiting the springs. It is known that warm baths are relaxing, which means that after bathing you are likely to feel very sleepy.
The hot springs of Krabi are wonderful places where you can admire the exotic scenery, learn more about the local culture, and improve your health. So if you're planning a trip to these areas, take a couple of hours to visit at least some of them.
