Grandparent stones on Koh Samui - a joke of nature

Art is often inspired by nature, but it can also be the other way around, with life serving as a source of inspiration for nature. A very interesting stone masterpiece can be found on Koh Samui - the sculptures called Grandma and Grandpa. Shaped like the genitals of a man and a woman, they rise near the observation deck, on the southern tip of Lamai Beach.

General Information

There are many legends about this place, but the most famous one tells us that in ancient times there lived an old couple, Ta Kreng (grandfather Kreng) and Yai Riem (grandmother Riem). They lived with their son. When it was time for him to get married, the parents got into a boat and headed for a nearby plantation to ask Grandpa Monglai for their daughter's hand.

But their dreams could not come true - they were caught up in a terrible storm, during which they drowned in the sea. Their bodies were washed ashore and turned into a rock with amazing stones, which remained standing on the shore, reminding people of the purity of their motives.

The second, no less famous legend, passed on by word of mouth, says that from the rock, holding hands, a couple in love, whose parents did not allow to be together, threw themselves into the sea. In memory of them, these stone statues appeared. But nobody knows why the stones are called Grandmother and Grandfather.

The same is associated with gaining love, preserving family relationships and with the opposite sex.

It's a delight to admire the mesmerizing view from the cliff. If you climb to the highest cliff, you can see the scattering of neighboring islands of Samui on the vastness of the ocean. Nearby is a bay with white sand. It's not at all comfortable to swim in because of the abundance of boulders and waves crashing against them, but just sit and dip your feet tired during the day in the clean, cool water, there can every traveler.

The water is so clear that you can safely observe marine life from the top of the cliff. In the evenings, guests settle on the plateau, crouching on warm rocks and watching the sun go down, or the crabs crawling away from the incoming waves.

The view of the village, surrounded by picturesque plantations and pastures, offers a glimpse of local life on the island and how it was before the island became a tourist destination. In general, the locals have adapted well to the new conditions, selling souvenirs and food prepared with their own hands to tourists.

Despite the fact that the influx of tourists here is quite large, market prices are very low compared to markets in other tourist destinations.
