Lonely beach - Koh Chang's youngest beach

Lonely beach - Koh Chang's youngest beach

Ko Chang is one of the best places in Thailand. It is located in the Gulf of Thailand, close to the mainland, not far from Bangkok. The beaches on the west coast of the island are just heavenly. A 20-meter strip of sand, palm trees, creating shade in the morning, and clear turquoise water without any tides - all these beaches Chiang. Lonley Beach is one of them. Not the most massive. And that's its big plus.

Many of those who have never been to this beach incorrectly call it "long" instead of "lonely. But it's not "long" at all, it's "lonely" beach. This made it the surrounding topography, which made the beach is unique not only in Chang, but also in the whole of Thailand.

The story of Lonley Beach began in the 1990s, when backpackers (hippie tourists) exploring Chang discovered a wild beach isolated from the rest of the island by mountains and jungle. Chang was just being explored by tourists, there was no road, and no willingness to traverse the obstacle course. But those who made it, found themselves in an amazing and completely deserted place. Such untouched corners on the seashore are few in Thailand.

In the 25 years since then, the Thais have paved the road, built stores, cafes, bungalows, even installed ATMs and Internet access. But the mood of the place has remained hippie and backpacker.

General Description

The sandy beach stretches a couple of hundred meters from north to south in the central part of Chang. Rocky rocks still bound it on both sides, creating a cozy confined space "for their own". A little further inland from the beach are several hotels, offering accommodation in modest one-story cabins or modern bungalows with all amenities.

To the south, the beach is joined by an island of civilization in the form of a resort village, which stretches for another kilometer or so. Here are most of the hotels, eating places and all the other infrastructure necessary to make the vacation not quite wild.

Some find it not very convenient to have such a long length of the resort. To get from the village to the beach you have to walk about a kilometer. But there is no problem in the additional walk: do not lie on the beach all day. Many resorts in different parts of the world (even in the nearest Crimea) are located in the mountain-rock terrain and have a similar arrangement, which in no way makes the rest worse.

What you can do on the beach:

  • sunbathing and swimming;
  • to swim in a kayak;
  • snorkeling in the northern rocky part of the beach;
  • to fish at the southern end of the beach;
  • sit in bars right on the beach;
  • party till morning.

Hotels

There are plenty of places to stay: 4 hotels on the beach itself and 19 - directly in the village. Note that the southern part of the beach is noisy until morning. The village is located above Lonley Beach, so the side adjacent to it can be even noisier than the beach itself. If you want it to be quieter, then choose to stay either north of the beach or center-south of the village.

The best location is at the cottages of the Siam Hut hotel in the southern part of the beach: 20 meters to the sea, close to stores and cafes, cheap. There is a disadvantage - the cabins are at the beginning of Lonley Beach. There are a lot of people walking around, including at night.

Siam Beach Resort, on the other hand, is secluded to the north of the beach. Some bungalows stand on a rocky hill with a beautiful view of the sea. There is a private pool with sun loungers. A night's stay will cost $50 or more.

The bungalows in the middle of the beach belong to Bhumiyama Beach Resort. Here everything is very good: houses buried in the greenery, own restaurant, swimming pool. From $100 per night.

Warapura Resort with 20 excellent bungalows and a swimming pool is located away from the beach line and other hotels in the village. It has a stunning view of the sea from a hilltop. The place is very "lolly. From $80.

To the south of the village are the townhouses and bungalows of Lonely Beach Resort. You can hardly hear any beach music here. An air-conditioned cabin with a bathtub rents for $ 20 during the green season. In winter it is twice the price.

It is not necessary to book lodging in advance. You can always find a free house or room, even arriving in the popular tourist season. With this approach is possible to choose the most convenient option is not a picture on the Internet, but by seeing everything with their own eyes.

Bars and parties on the beach

There are 2 hangout spots on the beach:

  • Siam Hut bar in South Lonley Beach;
  • Nature Beach Resort coffee bar in the central part of the beach.

Both belong to the hotels of the same name. They're open from 10 a.m. to midnight, but the biggest crowds come in the evenings at sunset, which is traditional for all places where the sun goes down into the sea. Siam Hut is also a nightly opener until morning.
